My First Homework

It's been a week since Husayn started school and he seems to be fine. No complaints or whining about it except for his now routine morning request where he will try his luck and ask whether it'd be OK for him to miss school for the day. It's not that he doesn't like it, it's just that he would love to stay home a bit more, climbing on my bed and cuddling up to me while at the same time, do away with his early morning shower.

Anyway, after a week, he excitedly told me yesterday that he finally got his first piece of homework from school.

As usual, when his Daddy gets back from work, Daddy will ask how he did in school and such. Yesterday, the conversation went like this...

Daddy: Husayn, how was school today? Mummy said you have homework today. Did you do it already?

Husayn: School was fine Daddy. Yup, I did my homework. It was too easy and boring. Just joining the dots, Daddy.

Maybe Mummy and Daddy should have a word with Husayn's teacher. Let's give him something more fun and a lot more complicated to work on! Or maybe, Husayn should start colouring in the pictures as well as joining the dots.

Husayn Tells Me the Time

As I was preparing to go to bed one night, I overheard a conversation between Ameera and Husayn...

Husayn: Ameera, Mummy said she was going to buy me something when we go to the shops tomorrow.

Ameera: NoOOoO...she didn't say that Husayn. She said, we'll see. Doesn't actually mean that she'll buy you anything, you know.

Husayn: NO. When Mummy says we'll see to ME it always means YES! It's when she says it to YOU...she means No.

And on and on the argument went while I was listening from afar and smiling away, not wanting to interfere. Huh, Husayn certainly has no lack of self-confidence when it comes to all things Mummy-related! Don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. Hmmm...

Anyway, earlier this week, Husayn's teacher mentioned to me that the class learned some basics about telling the time, on an old-fashioned analogue clock, not the easy peasy digital variety, of course. So, here we go...

Another Clever Excuse to Avoid School

Today, when I was in the car waiting for Ameera to get back from school, Husayn who had been quiet for some time suddenly enquired...

Husayn: Mummy, why do I have to go to school every day?

Mummy: So that you can be clever and you can be a doctor.

Husayn: But Mummy,  Doctors  don't go to school and play. You can't be a doctor if you go to playschool. I have to go to big school to be a doctor not like my school now...

Kids nowadays always have something interesting to say, don't they? This boy was definitely testing my patience at that stage but I held back any clever replies and gave my motherly answer...
Mummy: Errr...Yea Husayn, you need to go to playschool first and when you're ready, you will go to big school, OK?

Husayn: OK, Mummy. I'll go to big school. I want to be a doctor then.

When I was a little kid, I remember that I really wanted to be a doctor. Maybe it was because my mum kept telling me to be a doctor. Do you brainwash your kids to be a doctor (or work as any other worthwhile profession) too?

Haha... my Mum is a typical parent. As if there are no other good occupations other than being a doctor but yes, I'm like her too in that sense. I'm one of them - the typical parents. Eh.. but to be fair, I didn't ask him to be a doctor. He actually thought of that himself. He wants to be a doctor so that he can look after me when I'm old. Awww....

Another Conversation

One afternoon while I was washing the dishes in the kitchen my son Husayn suddenly came up to me.

Husayn: Mummy, can you put back Hisham in your tummy.
Mummy: Why?
Husayn: I want you to put him back in your tummy because he always hits me.

You see, as Hisham is getting bigger he is getting a bit hyper as well. He loves to grab anything in his reach and if he has a chance, he will grab his brother's and sister's heads and pat them. The pats can be a bit hard so Husayn will consider it as hitting him.

Mummy: But he didn't do it on purpose. He loves you.
Husayn (with an unsatisfied face): But he always wants you to carry him, he wants to sleep with you and he always wants to be with you and I CAN'T anymore. So, put him back in your tummy.
Mummy: But you also want Mummy to carry you and you cry like a baby ALL the time. Why don't YOU get in my tummy?
Husayn: But I don't want too. I want to be with you. Out with you. Because I LOVE YOU!!!

Silly Old Rascal!!

Sometimes, I'm just so Geram with my 3 year old son. He can be very sweet but most of the time, he really tests my patience. He loves to use big words and most of the time it sounds funny. Looking at his small-sized figure, you won't even realise that he's actually already 3 years old.

It must be some sort of natural defence system because that makes my husband and I hardly ever get mad at him. Emm... but for me, not anymore!

A few times, I've left him on the other side of the child barrier (that he can't open by himself). He would scream his head off asking for forgiveness and keeps saying those magic words:

I Love you Mummy!

Well, what happend today? This morning, I was in my back garden after almost 10 months of not stepping a foot on it. Yup, it has been that long i.e. ever since I gave birth to my third child and went home to Malaysia and then came back to Ireland again. I've never been outside to give a bit of TLC to my garden. Hey, I blame the weather. I like this blaming part... hahhaa.... really.

This is only a small part of my messy garden..

The weather makes me have this feeling. I don't even feel like opening the back door to my garden and let the cold, frosty fresh air in from that side of my house.

Today, I thought it's about time. So, I cleaned up the mess around the pavement door area and my mini green house which I bought last year. I was in the middle of loosening the soil in some pots and re-arranging some old pots around the garden when suddenly, my cheeky 3 year old son came up to me.

Husayn: Mummy can I have my bee scraper back? (Pointing to his sister's kids soil scraper)
Mummy: Wait ok Husayn? I'm using it right now.
Husayn: I want it now! It's mine.
Mummy: Wait Husayn. It's not even yours anyway. It's Ameera's.
Husayn: Mummy!!!! You Silly Old Rascal.... give me back my bee scraper!!!
Mummy: ????? What? What did you say? Where did you learn that?

He just kept silent.

Mummy: I'll tell Daddy what you said to Mummy. You're very mean to me and said bad things.

Bursting into tears and screaming and crying...

Husayn: No Mummy... I'm sorry Mummy. I love you. Please don't tell daddy.
Mummy: No. You're SO bold. I'll tell Daddy.

All the way upstairs he kept on crying and begging for forgiveness while trying to kiss me and say I love you to me.

I couldn't help but smile. I was SO angry but for some reason found it so funny and wanted to laugh away!

But I didn't. When I told my husband, he laughed out loud.

Would you find it funny too...?

Conversation. Again

It's the morning and we were getting ready to send Ameera to the bus stop for school. While putting on Hisham's jacket suddenly, Ameera asked me.

Ameera: Mummy can we go by car today...?
Mummy: Of course. Yes.

Suddenly, Husayn who was entertaining himself, shouted out.

Husayn: Yay! Yay! We're going by car! (turning the words into his own improvised song)

I was confused as to why he was so excited.

After dropping Ameera off, we arrived back home. When opening the car door for Husayn...

Husayn: Mummy, I thought we're going by car? (half whining and looking extremely disappointed)
Mummy: Yes, we did send Ameera by car.

Husayn: Nooooo. You said we were going BY CAR!!!

Mummy: We did.

Husayn: Nooooo. You said we're going to BUY a car? Where is the new CAR???

Mummy: ?????

After a good 10 minutes explaining it to him he eventually understood and stopped crying. We're going to send Ameera with a car instead of walking.

Husayn: OoOoOOoh!

Nadeen's Birthday!!!

Yesterday was Husayn's best friend's 3rd birthday. I can safely say she is his best friend because since Husayn was small up to now, they've been each other's only play mates. When I used to go to work, I would leave him over at Nadeen's house, where they were given very good care by Kakak Ija. He loves them both SO much and I think of them as part of my own family.

The sad part is, they plan to go home for good to Malaysia really soon. So, I guess he'll miss her a LOT. You guys will be missed!! Even now, every single day Husayn keeps asking me to bring him to Nadeen's house to play as if he knows that time is running out with his best friend. Knowing me, I am just too lazy to go out if there is no special occassion or things to do. Maybe, if they were my next door neighbour of course, I'll pop over anytime.

Anyway, on one occasion before we went to her house I was looking at a girl's picture on my laptop and I asked him...

Mummy: Husayn, is that girl cute?

Husayn: Emmm...yeah...

Mummy: Is she your girlfriend?

Husayn: No.

Mummy: Why?

Husayn: Because Nadeen's my girlfriend!!!

Mummy: Smiling (in my mind.. boy oh boy...)

Well, back to the party itself. Her mommy invited us to Nadeen's Green-themed Tinker Bell party. Apart from the present for Nadeen, I decided to do her mommy a favour by baking green cinnamon rolls for the party. This time, I tried to use a Brioche recipe by Artisan Bread in Five instead. It doesn't involve using an electrical mixer and it's easy too. Oh yeah..I put green colouring to adapt the party's theme. And, pink icing too...OMG!!!

But my husband still prefers the cinnamon rolls I made using the receipe from Amber's blog.

Another Conversation

It was in the night and I was in my room. The kids were in Ameera's room getting ready to go to bed and tidying up the room. Suddenly I heard them quarreling about who's going to do what.

Husayn: I'm moving out

Ameera:What? You're moving out? OK then. You can go now.

Husayn moved out from the bed he was sitting on to the corner of the room between two beds.

Ameera: WHY are you still here?

Husayn moved again. This time from between the beds to near the cuppboard.

Ameera: WHY are you STILL here?

Husayn: This is perfect.

He then went out just in front of the door to Ameera's room.

Ameera: ????

He brought his toys, his hat and his towel along with him. I don't even know why he brought the stuff that he took with him when moving out!

Another conversation

Husayn, my second child is only 3. Maybe because he has an elder sister, he has learnt a lot from her. Sometimes, I find him funny and amazing because out of nowhere, he will used big words that a kid his age wouldn't use as much. I don't know, maybe it's normal but he just makes me smile.

One afternoon while eating a snack with Husayn...

Husayn: Mummy, I don't like cream.
Mummy: Ok

Husayn: Do you know WHY, Mummy?

Mummy: No, I don't know.
Husayn: Because it's disgusting. It's very disgusting. I don't like it and it makes me get eczema!

Mummy: It's not very nice to say that, but it's ok, you don't have to eat cream, OK?
???

Note: He still eats dairy products despite saying all those things.

Another situation: One day, after doing our weekly grocery shopping, on the way to the car...

Husayn: Mummy, all this shopping makes me tired.
Mummy & Daddy: Smiling??? OK, we'll go home now, OK?

Another Conversation

One morning, Harith was getting ready to go to work and Ameera for school. I was preparing breakfast and packed lunches for them downstairs in the kitchen. Husayn was still sleeping in the bedroom. Suddenlly, I heard his crying and screaming:

Husayn: Mummy? Daddy? Mummy...?
Pause
Husayn: Mummy, where are you mummy? Daddy, where are you Daddy?
Everyone in the kitchen: We're here Husayn downstairs in the kitchen!

Husayn: I don't believe this! I don't believe this (shaking his head furiously while still crying)

Everyone: Smile.

Later after breakfast.

Husayn: Mummy I have to go to Nadeen's house today (his best friend/place where he stays when I'm working)
Mummy: But why?
Husayn: We have to go because Nadeen needs me!!!
Mummy: ?????

Note: He just sayed that as an excuse to play with his good friend.:-)

Just another conversation

At the dining table during lunch time. While we were eating, I was talking to Ameera about not lying to me while Husayn was just concentrating on eating .

Mummy: Ameera you don't ever lie to Mummy or keep any secrets from Mummy.
Ameera: OK Mummy.
Mummy: Do you know why?
Ameera: Yes, Mummy.
Mummy: Why?
Ameera: Because Mummy knows everything. You know everything about me.

Interrupting the serious conversation.

Husayn: I know everything about you Mummy.
Mummy: What did you say? (with a not satisfied look-nyampuk lak budak nie)
Husayn: I know eveything about you.
Mummy: What do you know about me? (dalam hati nak marah la nie...)
Husayn: I know that you are PRETTY (complete with serious-looking face).
Mummy: Emmm OK...(dengan muka control hensem...mmm...really wanted to laugh but have to control myself...)
